for the 24 hour brief i have explored themes such as 24 emotions, the emotions explored, moods, thoughts and then it lead onto 24hrs 24 faces. i looked at work by the designer Bruno Munari and then thought about 24hrs in outer space. Shooting stars, planets, comets, stars that talk in strange, disturbing electronic voices. Stars discussing the passing of time or the typical conversation that we humans have throughout the day ( the weather, the cost of a loaf of bread, the economic climate, housing, traffic, the X factor! )

over a 24 hour period I collected as much cultural material as i could, I looked at magazines, books, exhibition guides and I confess did use the internet too! I always try to visit galleries, exhibitions and read up on both historical and contemporary artists and designers. I wanted to see how much information i could collate and how much i would learn. During this 24 hour period I came discovered fantastic artists such as Carol Rama, Oskar Schlemmer and Charles Avery as well as looking at Rousseau and Paula Rego again.

Here are some ideas for the magazine brief. I decided to call it Painted Ladies as its a take on the Erotic Review but mixed up with Vogue and a bit of Tokien thrown in!
I thought it would be quite interesting for the high fashion items to be modelled by prostitutes or 'dancers' perhaps in poses taken from Degas drawings in brothels and from other works by famous and up and coming artists. There would be interviews with actors, musicians, artists, politicians and from interesting creative people that no one has ever heard of!
Writers, designers, photographers and illustrators would contribute each month and a new home or studio would be photographed alongside an interview with the person that lives there.
Another idea would be a Painted Ladies colouring book...for grown ups!
Below are a selection of ideas I had for the HOME brief. I looked at illustrations from Alice in Wonderland and works by the artists Paula Rego and Oskar Schlemmer for inspiration as well as Snoopy and fabulous story books by M.Sasek. I thought it would be nice if there could be characters for music etc such as snails carrying their homes on their backs that could also double up as a sound system spreading music where ever they go! Also there are babies/bats hanging from the home tree that fly away taking news with them to everyone who tunes in and pretty ladies with huge hair that serves as a home to all manner of creatures and objects for viewers to watch. Another idea was that each department had a pet that had a home ( serving as the logo ) such as a cat in a basket, dog in a kennel, bird in a bird house, cuckoo in a nest, bat in a tree and so on. I realise these ideas need to be finalised and tidied up, they are a little rough at the moment!
